Nephrology and Hemodialysis Department

Diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases in children, including hemodialysis

The Nephrology Department of the Children's National Medical Center diagnoses, treats and prevents kidney diseases in children.

We work with congenital, hereditary and acquired kidney diseases, including the most complex clinical cases that require high-tech care.

The department also includes a hemodialysis service, which allows us to care for patients with severe kidney failure at every stage of treatment.

Main areas

  • diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases in children
  • care for patients with congenital and hereditary nephropathies
  • treatment of nephrotic syndrome and glomerulonephritis
  • care for patients with acute and chronic kidney failure
  • hemodialysis (artificial kidney)
  • differential diagnosis of complex kidney diseases
  • outpatient and inpatient follow-up

What makes the department unique

The department brings together modern diagnostics, treatment and kidney replacement therapy in one center.

A hemodialysis service with 10 artificial kidney machines makes it possible to care for children with severe forms of kidney failure.

The department actively participates in international programs and collaborates with leading clinics (including through grants and partnership projects), which allows us to introduce modern treatment approaches.

The patient's journey

  1. Consultation — initial appointment with a nephrologist, medical history and assessment of the child's condition
  2. Diagnostics — laboratory and instrumental tests, differential diagnosis
  3. Treatment — selection of individual therapy and hemodialysis if needed
  4. Follow-up — ongoing monitoring of the patient in hospital or as an outpatient

In addition, patients can receive consultations both in person and via telemedicine.
