Urology Department

Diagnosis and treatment of urological diseases in children

The Urology Department of the Children's National Medical Center diagnoses and treats diseases of the genitourinary system in children and teenagers.

We work with congenital and acquired conditions, using modern minimally invasive and reconstructive methods that make treatment as gentle as possible and help the child recover quickly.

What makes the department unique

Our department combines modern technology with an individual approach to every child.

We have extensive experience in treating complex congenital anomalies of the genitourinary system and specialize in reconstructive surgery, including repeat operations after previous procedures.

One of our key areas is the surgical treatment of various forms of genital anomalies (hypospadias, epispadias, disorders of sex development, bladder exstrophy).

We use organ-preserving and minimally invasive methods that achieve results that are not only functional but also aesthetically good.

The patient's journey

  1. Consultation — initial appointment with a pediatric urologist, medical history and examination
  2. Diagnostics — expert-class ultrasound, urodynamic studies, endoscopy, lab tests, and CT and MRI if needed
  3. Preparation — a specialist case conference, choice of the optimal treatment strategy, assessment of anesthesia risks
  4. Treatment — surgery using modern minimally invasive and reconstructive techniques
  5. Post-operative period — observation in the specialized ward, in intensive care if needed, with round-the-clock monitoring
  6. Rehabilitation — recovery, outpatient follow-up and long-term monitoring of functional and cosmetic results

Our team

The department has a multidisciplinary team of specialists with extensive experience in pediatric urology and reconstructive surgery: pediatric urologic surgeons, minimally invasive surgery specialists, anesthesiologists, operating room nurses and intensive care specialists.

The team regularly completes international training placements and takes part in educational programs and conferences.

Complex cases

  • treatment of patients with complex congenital anomalies of the genitourinary system
  • more than 40 successful operations in children with bladder exstrophy
  • reconstructive surgery performed for more than 20 patients with neurogenic bladder dysfunction
  • more than 600 operations for various forms of hypospadias, including complex and repeat cases
  • care for patients after unsuccessful operations performed at other clinics

The department has significant experience in treating severe and rare cases that require multi-stage reconstruction and long-term follow-up.
