Nuclear Medicine Department
PET-CT, SPECT and radionuclide therapy for the early diagnosis of complex diseases in children.
The Nuclear Medicine Department of the Children's National Medical Center is a modern facility for high-precision diagnostics and treatment using PET-CT, SPECT and radionuclide therapy.
We specialize in detecting diseases at the earliest stages, when other methods cannot yet establish a diagnosis, as well as in monitoring the effectiveness of treatment and following patients over time.
The department works with oncological, endocrine, renal, cardiac and other complex diseases in children.

Main areas of diagnostics and treatment
- PET-CT diagnostics (positron emission tomography + CT)
- SPECT — functional diagnostics of organs and systems
- scintigraphy of the thyroid gland, kidneys, skeletal system, heart and lungs
- early diagnosis of tumors and metastases
- radionuclide diagnostics of congenital and acquired diseases
- radionuclide therapy
- monitoring treatment effectiveness and follow-up over time
When patients are referred to the Nuclear Medicine Department
Examinations are ordered by the relevant specialist when there is a suspicion of:
- cancer and metastatic disease
- thyroid disease
- disorders of the kidneys and urinary system
- diseases of the skeletal system
- complex diagnostic cases that require clarification
How the examination works
The patient first has a consultation with a specialist. A PET-CT, SPECT or other radionuclide examination is then ordered.
Preparation is carried out before the examination, and if needed, every stage is explained to the parents.
The examination is performed on modern equipment in compliance with all safety standards.
After the examination, the results are analyzed and an accurate diagnosis is made. If indicated, radionuclide therapy and further follow-up are prescribed.
Advantages of the department
- early diagnosis of diseases, including cancer
- detection of hidden metastases at early stages
- high diagnostic accuracy with minimal radiation exposure
- the ability to detect diseases before symptoms appear
- a comprehensive approach: diagnostics, treatment and monitoring in one center
- work within a multidisciplinary team
Equipment and technology
- Discovery IQ PET-CT (GE Healthcare, USA)
- SPECT (Discovery NM 630 gamma camera, GE Healthcare, Israel)
- an in-house cyclotron/synchrotron for producing radiopharmaceuticals
- Mitrace Qilin (GE Healthcare, Switzerland) — a radiopharmaceutical preparation system
- FastLab2 (GE Healthcare, USA) — a radionuclide therapy system
- modern radiation monitoring and safety systems
Our team
The department is staffed by nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists, medical physicists, functional diagnostics specialists and laboratory staff with extensive practical experience.
The team ensures accurate diagnosis, safe procedures and an individual approach to every patient.
Facts and figures
- more than 7,000 diagnostic examinations a year
- more than 5,000 PET-CT scans annually
- more than 2,000 SPECT and scintigraphy examinations
- high accuracy in detecting cancer at early stages
What we are especially proud of
- early diagnosis of complex cancers
- detection of hidden metastatic disease
- diagnosis of rare endocrine and congenital disorders
- radionuclide therapy for patients with complex clinical cases
- assessing the effectiveness of treatment after surgery and chemotherapy
The department is one of the few in Uzbekistan that performs high-tech examinations and uses the full range of radiopharmaceuticals.
